Owl Doorstop

Writer's picture: Stephanie DaviesStephanie Davies

A few weeks ago a friend asked me if I could make her an owl doorstop. Of course I had to say yes! She came to collect it this morning and was thrilled with it. I myself was so smitten with the owl that I think I’ll have to make one for myself. I’m not going to write a tutorial for this as I’m planning on selling them. They will all be custom designs, so no two will be exactly the same.

I do want to share the finished product with you though. I don’t mind if you figure out how to make one for yourself, it’s not like I reinvented the wheel with my owl, so go for it if you like 😉

Anyway, here are some photos of the owl doorstop followed by some stats.

I used my favourite cotton yarn, the Nikkim from Vinnis Colours with a 4mm hook. The lining is upholstery fabric in a similar colour to the teal of the heart and I filled this with a mixture of sand and salt. It’s quite heavy will do it’s job as a doorstop quite well, I think.

If you need tips on the shape you can have a look at my Owl Beanie tutorial to get an idea.

For those of you living in South Africa, you are more than welcome to contact me for orders. The owl sells for R950.40, excluding shipping.

Oh, also, my second blog for Your FAmily Magazine is now live, so go take a look. It’s a magic ring tutorial 😉
